REGULATIONS - BAPEPAM - Draft regulation Takaful and Retakaful

BAPEPAM LK, the Capital Market and Financial Institution Supervisory Agency  published a draft regulation concerning Forms and Procedures for Report Submission of the Sharia Supervisory Board activities on insurance and reinsurance businesses with sharia principles.

BANKING - Maybank secures USD700 million loan to fund growth (BII and Maybank Syariah Indonesia)

Malayan Banking (Maybank) on March 15 announced the successful closing and signing of a USD700 million syndicated term loan facility which attracted a strong response from the market.

 

The five-year transaction was fully underwritten and arranged by mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners comprising of ANZ, HSBC, Mizuho Corporate Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. Eighteen other banks joined in the deal, which was upsized from the initial amount of USD500 million to accommodate part of the oversubscription during the syndication. (full story)

TAKAFUL - Islamic Insurance Industry's Total Assets Grow

Islamic insurance companies' premium revenues grew by 35.65 percent to Rp 3.22 trillion in 2010 from 2009's Rp 2.38 trillion. (IFT/DINUL MUBAROK) JAKARTA (IFT) – Based on data from the Capital Market and Financial Institutions Supervisory Agency (Bapepam-LK), total assets of the Islamic insurance industry has kept on growing since 2005 due to increased premium revenues. Isa Rachmatawarta, Head of the Insurance Bureau of Bapepam-LK, said that the Islamic industry’s total assets grew by 47.63 percent to Rp 4.46 trillion in 2010 from Rp 3.02 trillion in 2009.(full story)

TAKAFUL - Indonesia Islamic Insurance Assets Increased 47.6% in 2010

Indonesia’s Islamic insurance assets surged 47.6 percent to 4.5 trillion rupiah ($512 million) last year from a year earlier, Indonesia’s Capital Market and Financial Institution Supervisory Agency said.

Islamic insurance, or takaful, is based on the Koranic principle of mutual assistance where policy holders contribute a sum of money to a common pool managed by the company. (full story)

FINANCIAL MARKETS - SUKUK - Indonesia sells 850 bln rph of 25-yr sukuk, yields fall

(Reuters) - Indonesia's finance ministry said on Tuesday it sold 850 billion rupiah ($97 million) of 25-year sukuk with a yield of 10 percent, lower than 10.22259 percent in a previous sukuk auction early this month.

TAKAFUL - Sharia Insurance Claim Increased 59.78% In 2010

JAKARTA (IFT) - The Sharia Insurance Industry’s claims rose 59.78 percent to 1.33 trillion rupiahs (US$ 148 million) from last year’s of 833 billion rupiahs according to the Supervisory Agency of Market and Financial Institution’s data.  According to the industry, the cause for the increase is their premium growth of 35.65 percent to 3.22 trillion from 2.38 trillion in 2009.(full story)
