The Baitul Maal Wat-tamwil Association of sharia-based microfinancing institutions has signed a memorandum to give migrant workers microfinancing assistance.
Association chairman Aries Mufti signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Overseas Workers on Thursday. (full story)
“We will provide microfinancing services to the migrant workers to prepare their departure. We can also help their family members who want to run their own businesses,” he said.
“We can assist them on how to stretch their money instead of spending it in a short time,” he said.
The association has more than 5,000 offices in Indonesia, “some of them are in regions where many of the people work as migrant workers , such as West Java and East Java,” he said.
Agency chairman Jumhur Hidayat said the MoU woul ensure workers had adequate funds, “both for departures and for business purposes.” (lfr)
