INDONESIA - TAKAFUL - Muamalat, Allianz aim to get Rp 50 billion from policies

Bank Muamalat Indonesia, a major sharia bank, and insurance and financial services provider Allianz Life Indonesia signed on Thursday a three-year agreement to market sharia-based insurance products to the bank’s customers nationwide.

BANKING - BNI Syariah targets Rp 15b of financing in franchise expo

The sharia unit of the country's third-largest lender by assets, Bank BNI, is targeting to ink deals for franchising financing totaling Rp 15 billion (US$1.74 million) during the ongoing international franchise expo in Jakarta, IFRA, which kicked off on Friday.

“We're targeting to be able to disburse Rp 15 billion in financing during this three-day exhibition,” BNI Syariah director Bambang Widjanarko said Friday in Jakarta. (source)

Abstract:     

There has been an accusation among few scholars blaming that the institution of waqf could not any longer perform its economic role in the modern times. To them, instead of being a vital institution as it was at pre-modern era, waqf nowadays seems to be an impediment to the development in most of Islamic countries.
