BANKING - BSM eyes on agricultural financing

JAKARTA: PT Bank Syariah Mandiri set eyes on small and micro financing in agricultural sector with financing target of IDR50 billion during QIV/2010.

Director Small and Micro Financing PT Bank Syariah Mandiri Hanawijaya said that the project will be started in September 2010 by targeting a group of farmers in Java and Sumatera also several spots in Kalimantan.
He said that they provide loans with starting limits about  IDR15 million to IDR35 million for each farmer. “For almost one year we had done the research. The research shows that we shouldn’t underestimate the food sector. Currently, we are preparing the pilot [project] and seeking the best small and micro funding scheme for agricultural sector which will be started in September,” he said during breakfasting last night.

Thus far, as he added, the company taps small and micro funding for small industry and trading sector.

The company's total funding under small and micro credit scheme until 20 August 2010 reached IDR350 billion, of which  60% was distributed to trading sector. The company targets the small and micro credit as much as IDR500 billion in the end of this year.

“We set financing targets at IDR225 billion for trading sector, IDR225 billion for small industry and IDR50 billion for the agriculture,” he said.
