BANKING - Mulya E Siregar: “Bank Syariah must be International Standard”

Jakarta, (30/8). Although we have lack behind in developing Islamic banking system in Indonesia, it is believed that Indonesia’s Islamic banking system will be the greatest in the world. Therefore, Islamic banking system in Indonesia must operate as accordance to Internal Standard, as explained by Director of Islamic banking directorate Bank Indonesia (DPbs-BI), Mulya E Siregar to pkesinteraktif.com, at His office.
International standard does mean it has to be like foreign Bank, HSBC, CitiBank or Standard Chartered, but more toward the ICT, human capital, service and innovative products which have International banks standard. In order to be competitive in offering services and products among its conventional counterpart.

“To become the International Islamic banking system is become my vision when I was appointed as the Director of DPbs,” said Mulya E Siregar.

In order to develop the Islamic international banking system, there are many things to be done, among others are by revising the Bank Indonesia regulation or Peraturan Bank Indonesia (PBI) and to support the government regulations in development the Islamic banking system.

When our Islamic banking system has an international standard, Mulya said he is certain that foreign investors will be interested to invest in Indonesia, in order to develop our economic system thru Islamic banking system.  (Agus Y/Nibra)
