KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd has appointed Achmad Riawan Amin as independent non-executive director effective Oct 6.
In a statement here Wednesday, CIMB Group chief executive, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, said the appointment of Achmad, an Indonesian, underscored the critical importance of Indonesia to the group's Islamic banking business.
"Achmad is well-known for his pioneering efforts in developing Islamic banking in Indonesia.
"His knowledge as well as experience in the field will be of significant value not just in Indonesia but also for the overall success of the CIMB Islamic franchise," he said.
Riawan is currently chairman of Indonesian Islamic Banking Association.
He was president director of Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI) from 1999 to 2009 and led the bank's recovery during the 1999-2002 monetary crisis.
Prior to joining BMI in 1993, he served with Bank Duta and Bank Universal.
Riawan currently lectures at State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah and University of Indonesia.
