BANKING - Maybank's BII posts RM145m net profit

MALAYAN Banking Bhd's (Maybank) Indonesian unit, PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII), ended its first nine months to September 30 2010 with a net profit of 415 billion rupiah (RM145 million) against a net loss of 183 billion rupiah (RM64 million) in the same period last year.

Operating profit rose to 612 billion rupiah (RM214 million) from 197 billion rupiah (RM69 million) the previous year.

Net interest income for the first three quarters was up 16 per cent to 2.55 trillion rupiah (RM887 million), while other operating revenues reached 1.52 trillion rupiah (RM530 million), largely contributed by an increase in fees from credit cards, trade finance, remittances and other service fees.

"Going forward, we will continue our aggressive growth strategy to achieve our aspiration to become the best bank in the markets we serve. Our synergy with Maybank will create new business initiatives to accelerate our growth momentum1.
"This provides reach and access for the bank to more customers and increases our market share. We plan to further expand our branch network by opening more than 200 offices in three years," BII president, director and chief executive officer Ridha Wirakusumah said.
