OVER 100 people are expected to attend the Islamic Finance News (IFN) Roadshow at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong next week, stated the organiser REDmoney Group.
The one day event, to be held on December 13, is hoped to "generate ideas, fresh views and concrete plans to capitalise on Islamic finance opportunities in the country", a statement from the organisers said.
Regarding the topic for this year's event, which is focused on "regulatory and infrastructure developments, methods and avenues for issuing and investing in Islamic financial markets and ways to set up relevant incentives and frameworks to further support the growth of the Islamic finance industry".
Rowan Garland, Marketing Executive at REDmoney, said, "These are the topics which were unearthed during our extensive research when deciding on the agenda. Industry experts and practitioners are consulted during our agenda building process, and their suggestions are accumulated, consolidated and put forward to the event board. This is where the agenda is born."
He added, "I'm sure many more topics such as tax, corporate governance, and the funds industry will be discussed in some detail too."
Garland also said that while the event will be educational for many, the event "is targeted towards the industry's practitioners. We have a strict door policy for the IFN Roadshow, in that students and academicians are not invited as delegates".
Those attending, he added, will comprise "senior (industry) leaders from Brunei, the surrounding markets and further afield".
"We are also expecting a strong contingency from the local regulatory fraternity," he added.
As Brunei has bypassed conventional capital markets to move straight into developing Islamic debt instruments, organising the event in the Sultanate this year makes perfect sense, the organisers said.
Key speakers include Muhd Jamil Abas Abdul Ali, senior partner, Abrahams Davidson & Co; Javed Ahmad, acting managing director, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam; Mohamad Damshal Damit, managing director of Amundi Asset Management and Sri Anne Hj Masri, executive manager at the Withanage Group Incorporated.
Interested parties are encouraged to register at www.ifnroadshow.com to attend the event.
