“Shariah banking has significant growth in the last 10 years, thus such integration may further foster the Sharia banking itself,” he said at a working meeting with the House Commission XI in the office of Indonesia's House of Representatives today.

Adding to that, this integration will also grant Indonesia certain benefits, including to boost the growth in Sharia banking in particular and the financial industry in general as well as expand the investors’ base in issuing global securities, for instance government's Global Sukuk.

“Later, BI will also be able to invest in sukuk and other Sharia financial instruments being issued by IILM. These instruments will function as the underlying in the monetary operation,” he said.

In the meantime, Vice Chairman of House Commission XI said that such permission is granted only if BI attaches IILM's Article of Association. (T02/NOM)
