Access of the poor to financial services is widely recognized as a powerful tool of poverty alleviation. An Islamic financial service (IFS) is expected to enhance access to financial services by making these services relevant for the users. The purpose of the conference is to analyze the challenges facing the development of micro enterprises due to non-availability of IFS and studying the ways and means to develop the IFS and the related infrastructures with a view to enhancing the access of micro enterprises to financial services.
Sudan Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences –SABFS- (Khartoum) , Sudan and the Islamic Research and Training Institute [IRTI] - a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Jeddah, in collaboration with other partner institutions are pleased to announce the above conference. The First Conference in this series of conferences was organized on April 2007 by IRTI/IsDB and the Center for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management University of Brunei Darussalam.
Original empirical and theoretical papers of high quality will be presented to the conference addressing the following themes.

- The Islamic Approach to micro enterprises Finance
- Sustainability of micro enterprises
- Social Enterprise Development;
- Channels of Supplying Financial Services to micro enterprises;

- Legal, Tax, Regulatory and Policy Framework;
- Safety-nets and Insurance
- Islamic microfinance risk management
- Institutions:
- Role of Islamic Institutions such as Awqaf, Zakah, Qard Hassan, Baitul Mal Wal Tamweel and Al-Rehn in micro enterprises-Finance;
- Role of Capital Markets in micro enterprises development;
- Challenges and problems facing Islamic institutions supporting micro-enterprises.
- Instruments, modes and modalities :

Other relevant topics can also be addressed.

IRTI will pay for hotel expenses for the duration of the Conference and round-trip economy class air tickets to one author of each selected paper. The Conference Academic Committee will select the papers after thorough evaluation applying international academic standards. The Conference organizers will help arrange visas and hotel arrangements for international participants.
