WORLD - CALL FOR PAPERS - Call for papers and Participation in Orientation Seminar and Research Workshop on Morality and Finance (deadline abstract July 31, 2011)

The Islamic Foundation and Markfield Institute of Higher Education, UK and Islamic Research and Training Institute (IDB), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia are pleased to announce the organisation of a three-day orientation seminar on “Morality and Finance”. This orientation seminar will explore the question how modern financial practices can be reconciled with moral values. Integrating morality with banking, insurance and the financial intermediary will play a key role in modern economy. The smooth functioning of Islamic capital market is essential to investment and capital accumulation driving economic growth and prosperity. 

Call for Papers and Participation

Papers are invited to analyse the moral economy nature of Islamic finance. Covering any topic on morality, ethics, Islamic finance and investment in the Western countires’ perspective, but not limited to those identified below, with the understanding that the same work has not been and will not be published, nor is presently submitted elsewhere: (details hereunder)
Religion as a source of ethical pursuit in humans

Islamic or Christian or Jewish Financial principles and morality

Perspectives on the development and performance of Islamic finance in relation to its moral economy base in the Western countries’ perspective

Socially responsible banking (SRI, religiously inspired banking, microfinance, and cooperative banking)

Islamic finance and ethical investment

Case studies (Islamic and socially responsible investment in the West)

Pension fund management and morality/ethics

The abstract (min. 500 words – max. 1000 words) should be submitted by 31st July, 2011 interested persons are invited to attend the programme. There is no conference fee for paper presenters and workshop chairs.

Abstract submission for the conference: 31st July 2011
Announcement of the accepted abstracts: 05th August 2011
Deadline for the complete papers: 15 September 2011
