Property developer PT Bumi Darussalam says it is developing Islamic housing complexes in Palembang and Madiun, East Java, after the success of similar projects in Depok, West Java.
“We realized that [Islamic housing projects] have good market potential as soon as we launched our second housing project [in Depok],” Bumi Darussalam marketing director Mat Umar Sutoyo said recently, as quoted by kompas.com on Monday. (source)
“We previously developed housing projects with conventional concepts, but then we came up with the Islamic housing project concept. Depok happens to have strong Islamic nuances,” he added.
Among the Bumi Darussalam housing projects are the Permata Darussalam, Mutiara Darussalam, Pondok Darussalam and Pesona Darussalam complexes in the Depok area.
Umar said houses in that area were aimed at the middle class and had sold well so far. In two years, he said, 152 houses had been sold for between Rp 200 million (US$23,400) and Rp 400 million each in the Mutiara Darussalam housing estate.
“Now we’re developing Muslim housing in Palembang, namely at the Bumi Darussalam complex, and the Griya Darussalam in Madiun,” he said, adding that in Palembang the houses on offer were slightly more expensive, the cheapest going for Rp 350 million.
