INDONESIA - BANKING - ASBISINDO asks BI to promote Islamic banking

JAKARTA - Indonesian Sharia Bank Association (Asbisindo) has called on Bank Indonesia (BI) supports the promotion of Islamic financial products in order to be able to expand market penetration.

Based on the BI reports, in 2010 the total business volume of Islamic banking grew 43.99% compared to 2009 was 26.55%.

  Asbisindo Minta BI Promosikan Bank Syariah

 JAKARTA - Asosiasi Bank Syariah Indonesia (Asbisindo) meminta Bank Indonesia (BI) mendukung promosi produk-produk keuangan syariah agar mampu memperluas penetrasi pasar.

"Kalau promosi hanya diserahkan kepada bank syariah yang ukurannya tiga persen dari total pangsa pasar perbankan nasional, maka biaya promosinya juga tiga persen. Sedangkan perbankan konvensional punya anggaran yang jauh lebih besar," kata Ketua Umum Asbisindo A Riawan Amin kepada Antara di Jakarta, Sabtu.

Dari sisi pelaku perbankan, menurut Riawan, hanya beberapa outlet bank syariah di daerah yang menawarkan produknya. "Jangan-jangan malah tidak ada produk syariah di outlet itu atau punya produk syariah tapi tidak dijual," katanya.

Riawan mengatakan, promosi produk perbankan syariah menghadapi tantangan dalam sistem keuangan yang menganut sistem konvensional seperti Indonesia.

"Kalau kita biarkan semua itu (promosi produk syariah) berjalan alamiah, akan lambat berjalannya. Padahal promosi perbankan konvensional semakin bertambah besar," katanya.

Berdasarkan laporan BI, pada 2010 volume usaha total perbankan syariah tumbuh 43,99% dibanding pada 2009 sebesar 26,55%.

Sementara, pada triwulan ketiga 2010 jumlah kantor bank umum syariah dan unit usaha syariah naik menjadi 1.388 dibanding pada periode yang sama 2009 dengan 924 kantor. (*/gor)
