INDONESIA - MICRO FINANCE - Micro Financing is Increasingly Popular in Indonesia

Jakarta, (15/11). Micro financing is now increasingly popular in Indonesian banking system. Some of the Indonesian banks are now establishing micro financing business unit. Micro financing is supported by the Indonesian government as well, by implementing the program Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR)/microfinancing for people in need. (source)


The credit Director of bank for rural area and microfiancing Bank Indonesia (BI), Edy Setiadi said that our banking system is now competitively entering the microfinancing, and some banks using the linkage micro financing program.
“Almost 1500 BPR (bank for rural area) using this linkage micro-financing program, there are a total IDR 8 trillion of micro financing that has been distributed” said Edy.
Furthermore Edy said that (BPRS) Islamic bank for rural area, co-operative shops syariah and Baitulmaal Waa Tanwil (BMT) is very significant in assisting the microfinancing sector.
“The establishment of BMT-BMT and  Inkopsyah is very useful to be the channelling agents of Islamic bank to contribute microfinacing,” exclaimed Edy.
