INDONESIA - BANKING - Foreign Workers Disallowed to be CEO at Indonesian Firms

www.theindonesiatoday.com - Foreign workers are disallowed to post as chief executive officer (CEO) at the Indonesian companies, said minister of manpower and transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar.

The minister said his ministry had in February 29, 2012 signed the decree of manpower and transmigration ministry No 40 year 2012 concerning the certain positions of foreign workers at the country's firms. (source)



Muhaimin also bans foreign workers from taking roles in 18 position at the Indonesian companies. That positions include Personnel Director, Industrial Relation Manager, Human Resources Manager, Personnel Development Supervisor, Personnel Recruitment Supervisor, and Personnel Placement Supervisor.

Sofjan Wanandi, chairman of Indonesian Entrepeneur Association (Apindo), opposes the decree. "This (banning foreign workers) means we expel the foreign workers as well as reject the incoming of them," he told Detikfinance.com.

He noted that the foreign involvement is crucial for Indonesia's economic growth as they invest in the country. (hans@theindonesiatoday.com)
