INDONESIA - BANKING - Syariah Mandiri reduces corporate loans, boosting retail

en.bisnis.com - JAKARTA: PT Bank Syariah Mandiri, Indonesia’s largest sharia-based bank, will reduce the portion of its corporate loans this year as part of its strategy in increasing retail loans.

“The portion of corporate loans is expected to reach 26% in 2012, lower than that of last year. Last year, the portion was 28%,” said Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM) Director Amran Nasution over the weekend.

With such target, the growth of corporate loans this year will be lower than that of retail loans. He mentioned that the consideration is the dominating big debtors in banking loans in the country. (source)

The bank, which is a subsidiary of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk, expects to disburse new corporate loans as much as IDR4 trillion this year plus syndicated loan of IDR2 trillion.

To achieve the target, the Islamic-based bank established in 1999 will focus on three sectors this year: oil-gas, infrastructure, and construction.
