REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG - Islamic banking in recent years has grown dramatically. In South Sumatra, the growth of Islamic bank assets relatively rapidly during 2011. Growth up to November 2011 recorded a 59.75 per cent compared to the end of 2010.
According to Bank Indonesia (BI), assets of Islamic banks in November 2011 reached Rp 3.45 trillion. This value is an increase over 2010, amounting to Rp 2.16 trillion. Enhancement of these assets contributed from the increased office network of 429 offices of Islamic banks in 2010 to 475 offices in 2011. The number of Islamic banks to open branches in South Sumatra was increased from the previous bank only eight to nine banks in 2011. (source)
