HALAL - Business 20 US companies mull investing in Indonesia

In efforts to increase investment volume, at least 20 companies from the United States have been invited to discuss opportunities in Indonesia with government representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday.

US Ambassador to Indonesia Scot A. Marciel said the US wanted to increase the volume of its investment in Indonesia, to make it the third-biggest investor in Indonesia. (full story)



“The Presidents [of the US and Indonesia] launched a new partnership in Jakarta last November to increase cooperation in all areas. One area that we would like to improve is business,” Marciel said Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The discussions follow on from the Comprehensive Partnership agreement US President Barack Obama and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed in November.

Marciel added that the increase in trade volume would boost welfare and employment in both countries
The delegates of 20 companies, led by the US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco J. Sanchez and Under Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse, will be in Indonesia until Wednesday.

The delegates are mostly from companies in the agricultural and food processing sector, including Monsanto, Case New Holland, Mirasco, SunOpta, Mirasco Inc, Datepac Inc. and the Commercial Creamery Company.
Companies granted with halal certificates by the Islamic Services of America will also be present.
