"God willing, the end of this year already stands UUSnya," said Mulya told reporters. Mulya said Bank of Edinburgh have applied for the establishment of Sharia Division to the central bank since early 2011. BI own party, now is processing permits the establishment of Sharia Division.

Mulya explained before the Sharia Division operates a conventional bank, Bank will give permission to the principle first. Bank-related were given six months to complete things like offices, business activities to the Human Resources. If it is already equipped, the new BI will provide a business license.

"When can a business license, I give a period of 6 months. If during the six months UUS do not operate their business then we pull the permit, "he said.

Until now there are 11 Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS) and 23 UUS. Islamic banking office network itself, reaching 2917 offices spread across 33 provinces as well as serving approximately 8 million customers. (Ul)

Jakarta (15/8)- PT. Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jambi dalam waktu dekat akan mendirikan Unit Usaha Syariah (UUS). Hal tersebut disampaikan Direktur Direktorat Perbankan Syariah Bank Indonesia (BI), Mulya Siregar di sela-sela acara halal ekspo di Jakarta, Sabtu (13/8).

“Insya Allah akhir tahun ini sudah berdiri UUSnya,” ujar Mulya kepada wartawan. Mulya mengungkapkan Bank Jambi telah mengajukan permohonan pendirian UUS kepada BI sejak awal tahun 2011. Pihak BI sendiri, kini sedang memproses perijinan pendirian UUS tersebut.

Mulya menjelaskan sebelum UUS sebuah bank konvensional beroperasi, BI akan memberi ijin prinsip terlebih dahulu. Bank yang terkait diberi waktu 6 bulan untuk melengkapi segala hal seperti kantor, kegiatan usaha hingga Sumber Daya Manusianya. Jika hal tersebut sudah dilengkapi, BI baru akan memberi ijin usaha.

”Setelah dapat ijin usaha, BI beri waktu 6 bulan lagi. Jika selama 6 bulan UUS tersebut tidak beroperasi maka ijin usahanya kami cabut,” ujarnya.

Sampai saat ini sudah terdapat 11 Bank Umum Syariah (BUS) dan 23 UUS. Jaringan kantor perbankan syariah sendiri, mencapai 2917 kantor yang tersebar di 33 propinsi serta melayani sekitar 8 juta nasabah.(ul)
