The rapid growth of the Islamic finance industry for years has attracted awareness of global financial institution and countries concerning the increasing position of Islamic finance in financial landscape in the world. Even The World Bank Group has "formally recognized Islamic finance and have designated it a priority area in its financial sector program". (Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Managing Director of World Bank in 8
th Islamic Financial Services Board Annual Summit in Luxembourg, May 2011).
Islamic microfinance as part of Islamic finance, even now still in small portion, but for years has also shown a rapid growth in servicing and empowering community development through Islamic financing activities in
achieving economic prosperity goal for society.
Bank Indonesia working together with Ministry of Foreign Affair and D-8 Secretariat (the multilateral organization based in Istanbul, Turkey which comprises 8 developing countries in the world: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey) will organized workshop on Islamic Microfinance in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The workshop will covered the regulatory and market participants view both in banking and non banking type of Islamic microfinance in policy, concept and practices as well as the educational view from university as one of the centre of exclence in preparing and developing the human resources and knowledge related to this area.
The participants/delegates are expected to come from 8 (eight) countries from government and private/nongovernment institution from at least middle level rank in the organization, who are knowledgeable about the issue and is committed to the development of Islamic microfinance in the home country.
The objectives of the workshop, which is basically a capacity building program, are :
- To support campaign in economic prosperity and community empowerment, particularly in D-8 member
countries.
- To assist D-8 member countries in developing sustainable Islamic microfinance programs.
- To enhance skills, expertise, and capacity of the policy makers and Islamic microfinance practitioners of D-8 member countries.
- To provide rooms for D-8 member countries to share experiences on the best practices of Islamic microfinance.- To arouse the participants’ awareness of the importance of establishing networking and alliance among the D-8’s members on developing a sustainable Islamic microfinance system as one way to enhance prosperity in the respected country.
