INDONESIA - BANKING - Bank Syariah Mandiri Eyes Mining Sector

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM) plans to increase funding in the mining sector this year. “BSM funding for medium-scale businesses in the mining sector is still minimal,” BSM director Sugiharto said in Jakarta yesterday.

He said the mining sector was attractive due to its large potential in Indonesia.  (source)

Nevertheless, Sugiharto stressed that BSM’s commitment was to focus on funding for agriculture and trade. Total funds for the agriculture and trade sectors accounted for between 45 and 47 percent of the bank's funding, he added.

In 2011, the BSM distributed some Rp44 trillion. This year, the company has projected 30 percent in fund growth. The subsidiary of Bank Mandiri booked Rp540 billion in profit last year, or 29 percent more than the previous year.
