EDUCATION - Indonesia shares experience in Islamic banking

The training of economists and bankers from Russia on various aspects of Islamic banking began on June 13, 2011, in Jakarta, in the Islamic bank Bank Muamalat Indonesia (BMI).

On the first day of the training, BMI Head of International Relations department, Mr. Farouk Alvini, welcomed the Russian delegation and informed them of the recent performance of the bank. Particularly, he noted that BMI is the second largest Islamic bank in Indonesia with the asset growth of 30% per year. (source)

The Republic of Indonesia invites Russian businessmen to exchange experiences in the field of Islamic banking.

24th of January the Chief of Staff of the Russian Mufties Council Rushan hazrat Abbyasov met with the counselor of the Embassy of Indonesia, Mr. Aji Suraya.

During the meeting the sides discussed areas of cooperation in 2011. In particular, they discussed the question of intensification of relations in education, culture, economics, interfaith relations.(source)

Indonesia and Russia expect to increase bilateral economic activities in the upcoming years following the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

As part of its efforts to promote Islamic finance around the world, the Secretary General of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) Dr. Mohamad Nedal Alchaar, together with representatives of the Ministry Finance, the Central Bank and the Grand Mufti of the Shura Council of Russian Muftis, has met in the Russian capital Moscow with the Russian Association of Experts in Islamic Finance.
