INDONESIA - BANKING - BNI Syariah eyes capital financing of IDR200billion from PLN Batam and BSM hits record financing August 2011

JAKARTA: PT Bank BNI Syariah seeks opportunity to provide working capital amounting to IDR200 billion for the state-owned PT PLN Batam in a guaranteed-financing program. Besides, the bank expects to gain fees from other partnership programs with the electricity company.

The sharia unit of the state-controlled PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk is targeting an income from the payment which is charged on deposits of newly upgraded electricity subscribers in Batam amounting to IDR150 billion. (source)


BNI Syariah and PLN Batam on Monday signed a contract on deposit-based financing iB Hasanah and the use of other services of the bank, such as cash management.

The recently signed contract is a continuation of the previous partnership in the collection of electricity payment made through online system since 2010, said BNI Syariah President Director Rizqullah.

According to him, the bank has developed the insured deposit product to support electricity payment transaction, particularly to PLN. BNI Syariah provides the facility of electricity payment for customers having deposits in the bank.

BSM financing

In another development, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri had a financing record of IDR32.89 trillion at end of August, increasing 31.21% compared to end of 2010.

“BSM booked IDR40.25 trillion assets of at end of August, IDR35.93 trillion third party fund, and disbursed IDR32.89 trillion credit,” BSM Director Hanawijaya said in a gathering held by Indonesian Sharia Banks Association last week.

Provided the performance, the subsidiary of PT Bank Mandiri Tbk has disbursed more than half of financing target this year which is set at IDR38 trillion. The bank's outstanding of financing at end of 2010 was IDR23.97 trillion. (T04/NOM)
