INDONESIA - BANKING - Islamic finance Indonesia part of the 'big 5'

Position after Indonesia will be occupied by Pakistan (1.38 billion U.S. dollars), India (1.38 billion U.S. dollars), Bangladesh (1.15 billion U.S. dollars, Iran (624 million U.S. dollars), Turkey (581 million U.S. dollars) , UK (190 million U.S. dollars), Yemen (187 million U.S. dollars), Syria (163 million U.S. dollars), Malaysia (133 million U.S. dollars), and United Arab Emirates (94 million U.S. dollars). JAKARTA - Laporan Global Islamic Finance 2011 memasukkan industri keuangan syariah Indonesia dalam lima besar industri keuangan syariah dunia atau tepatnya berada di urutan keempat.

"Laporan di London itu menempatkan Indonesia di urutan keempat," kata Direktur Direktorat Pengaturan Perbankan Syariah Bank Indonesia (BI), Mulya Siregar dalam Economic Outlook 2012: Peluang dan Tantangan Ekonomi Syariah di Jakarta, Rabu.

Indonesia berada di urutan keempat setelah Iran, Malaysia, dan Arab Saudi. Indonesia berada di atas Bahrain dan Inggris.

Menurut dia, ada beberapa indikator yang menempatkan Indonesia di posisi keempat yaitu kerangka kerja industri keuangan syariah di Indonesia sudah memiliki Dewan Syariah Nasional dan di masing-masing perusahaan sudah memiliki dewan pengawas syariah.

"Ini menyebabkan pengaturan yang sama di tingkat nasional. Di negara lain hanya ada dewan pengawas syariah," katanya.

Selain itu, Indonesia memiliki jumlah bank syariah cukup besar terdiri atas 11 bank umum syariah, 153 bank perkreditan rakyat syariah (BPRS), dan unit usaha syariah di bank konvensional.

Indonesia juga punya pengaturan industri keuangan syariah yang sudah mengikuti standar internasional. "Selain itu, jumlah penduduk muslim di Indonesia yang besar," kata Mulya.

Menurut dia, tidak tertutup kemungkinan tahun 2012 Indonesia akan masuk di urutan ketiga mengingat potensi yang masih besar. "Namun yang terpenting adalah bahwa kehadiran industri keuangan syariah terutama perbankan memberi dampak positif kepada masyarakat," katanya.

Pakar ekonomi syariah Karim Business Consulting, Adiwarman Karim mengungkapkan bahwa berdasar proyeksi Islamic Financial Intelligence Summit di Malaysia, aset industri keuangan syariah di Indonesia akan menempati posisi pertama pada 2023.

"Aset industri keuangan syariah dunia pada 2023 akan mencapai 8,6 miliar dolar AS, dan Indonesia mencapai 1,60 miliar dolar AS," kata Adiwarman.

Posisi setelah Indonesia akan ditempati oleh Pakistan (1,38 miliar dolar AS), India (1,38 miliar dolar AS), Bangladesh (1,15 miliar dolar AS, Iran (624 juta dolar AS), Turki (581 juta dolar AS), UK (190 juta dolar AS), Yaman (187 juta dolar AS), Syria (163 juta dolar AS), Malaysia (133 juta dolar AS), dan Uni Emirat Arab (94 juta dolar AS).
