REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Pertumbuhan perbankan syariah di Indonesia relatif cepat dalam lima tahun terakhir, dengan rata-rata pertumbuhan aset mencapai 40 persen. Posisi aset perbankan syariah per September 2011 telah mencapai Rp 126 triliun. Dengan posisi itu, perbankan syariah Indonesia menduduki posisi keempat dunia setelah Iran, Malaysia, dan Arab Saudi.

Deputi Gubernur Bank Indonesia, Halim Alamsyah, Jumat (11/11), mengatakan pertumbuhan aset perbankan syariah Indonesia relatif cepat dibandingkan rata-rata pertumbuhan perbankan syariah di negara lain. Sementara rata-rata pertumbuhan perbankan syariah di dunia hanya 10-15 persen.

Angka pertumbuhan perbankan syariah Indonesia diprediksi terus naik. Hal itu dipengaruhi potensi ekonomi Indonesia yang lebih baik dibandingkan negara lain yang memiliki perbankan syariah. Pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia per September 2011 tercatat 6,5 persen.

Pertumbuhan ekonomi itu didukung jumlah penduduk Indonesia yang mencapai 237 juta jiwa. Ini menjadi potensi pasar perbankan syariah. “Posisi kita dalam jumlah bank syariah termasuk menonjol di dunia,” ujar Halim.  Di Indonesia, jumlah Bank Umum Syariah (BUS) telah mencapai 11, ditambah 23 Unit Usaha Syariah (UUS).

Dari segi kelembagaan, lanjut Halim, perbankan syariah Indonesia juga dinilai lebih unggul. Fatwa untuk perbankan syariah Indonesia dikeluarkan oleh satu lembaga yakni, Dewan Syariah Nasional Majelis Ulama Indonesia (DSN-MUI). Sementara negara lain, fatwa masih berasal dari masing-masing bank.


Potensi yang besar itu telah menarik sejumlah investor asing untuk menanamkan modal di Indonesia di bidang ekonomi syariah. “Delegasi dari Timur Tengah menyatakan sangat tertarik pada perbankan syariah di Indonesia,” ujarnya.
