INDONESIA - HALAL - 80 Qurban Managements Received Technical Trainings

beritajakarta.com - Together with Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) and Medicine Faculty of Bogor Agriculture Institute (IPB), East Jakarta Livestock and Fishery Sub-Department gives technical trainings about how to slaughter cattle and handle qurban meat to 80 qurban managements from 40 mosques in East Jakarta. This activity is held in Agriculture Pusdiklat building at Kebon Singkong, Duren Sawit, Tuesday (10/25). In that occasion, East Jakarta Livestock and Fishery Sub-Department also gives donations in form of 40 tarps and 80 carving knifes. (source)

Edi Santoso as Head of East Jakarta Livestock and Fishery Sub-Department stated that technical training is needed so that qurban management can understand more about qurban procedures. “Besides given knowledge about government policies toward qurban animals, the participants are also given knowledge about qurban animals’ requirements and age as well as health,” he explained, after opening the training.

He predicted the total of animal shelters to be checked as well as cattle to be examined its health is almost similar to last year. In 2010, there were 497 animal shelters checked, while the cattle examined were consist of 6,771 cows, six buffaloes, and 1,115 goats.

Last year, the qurban slaughtering were conducted in 535 locations with total of cattle examined consist of 2,208 cows, 17 buffaloes, 9,379 goats, and 517 sheep. “We urge people to purchase qurban cattle in official animal shelter which its cattle’s health have been examined by the officers,” he added.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta Livestock Fishery and Maritime Sub-Department plans to examine qurban cattle starting from eight days before Eid (H-8) or on October 31. The examination will lasts until H-1 or on November 5, 2011. This effort aims to ensure the cattle in healthy condition and proper to be consumed. As much as 30 personnel from North Jakarta Livestock Fishery and Maritime Sub-Department together with some veterinarians will be deployed and spread to six sub-districts in North Jakarta.

Head Section of Supervision and Controlling for North Jakarta Livestock Fishery and Maritime Sub-Department, Muhammad Nasir, stated that five personnel will standby in each sub-district to examine qurban cattle in animal shelters as well as cattle selling places. “By doing so, residents will know the animal shelters and cattle selling places which its cattle had been examined because a sticker will be stamped there. It is also to know which cattle healthy to be consumed or not and prevent cattle that had disease,” he explained.

According to him, the examination includes examination before the qurban cattle slaughtered in animal shelter as well as animal body temperature, eyes, nose, and teeth health, administration completeness, and Animal Health Certificate (SKKH) from its origin place. “If there is animal found not having SKKH, it will be returned to its origin place. And if there is animal found having disease, it cannot be sold and must be separated from other cattle to prevent disease transmission. The sick animal will be treated until heal by officers,” he asserted.
