INDONESIA - BANKING - BNI Syariah Transaction Card Hasanah Jumped 35 Percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Transaction card financing (credit) BNI Syariah, Hasanah Card, experienced a drastic surge during August 2011. Subsidiary of PT BNI these transactions recorded an increase of 35 percent of the months usually.

INDONESIA - BANKING - Cash Withdrawals In Idul Fitri Up 44.2%

JAKARTA (IFT) – Banks’ total cash withdrawal during Idul Fitri grew 44.2 percent to Rp 79 trillion from Rp 54.8 trillion last year, according to data from Bank Indonesia. INDONESIA - PAWN BROKING - Pegadaian records 20% increase in pawn transactions

State pawn shop operator Perum Pegadaian recorded a 20 percent increase in transactions in August, ahead of the Idul Fitri holidays, compared with the previous month.

“Compared with before Lebaran [Idul Fitri], the pawn transactions rose by up to 20 percent,” Perum Pegadaian managing director Suwhono said Friday in Jakarta. (source)

Bank Mandiri has allocated a total of Rp 22.7 trillion (US$ 2.6 billion) to meet transaction demand during the Idul Fitri holidays.

Mandiri corporate secretary Sukoriyanto said 60 percent of the fund will be distributed to Greater Jakarta while the remainder would go to Semarang, Surabaya and Bandung.  (source)

With Ramadan already into its second week, the Indonesian Council of Ulema has come out to declare two activities popular at this time of year forbidden: Paying to have money changed and the sale of fireworks.

INDONESIA - BANKING - BI prepares cash for Ramadan and Idul Fitri : Rp 61.36 trillion

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) estimates money demand during the fasting period of Ramadan and Lebaran in 2011 amounting to Rp61, 36 trillion, an increase of Rp 6, 57 trillion, about 12% over the previous year realization of the need for Rp54, 78 trillion.

BI Deputy Governor Ardhayadi Mitroatmodjo here on Thursday said to meet that need, then the Bank has prepared a national inventory of cash until the end of July for Rp123, 39 trillion, consisting of large denominations of money Rp106, 86 trillion and the money of small denominations Rp16, 53 trillion. KCI leaders Sharia BRI Bandung Rois.M Ijon said it is optimistic that the target is reached because of the performance pledge of gold in semester 1 / 2011 shows a positive trend.

BANKING - Banks Stockpiling Cash For Idul Fitri Festivities

Jakarta. Bank Indonesia and local lenders are stocking up on cash to cope with expected surging demand for bank notes during the peak of this year’s festive season, which will occur Aug. 25 to Sept. 19.

Budi Rochadi, deputy governor of the central bank, said: “To anticipate cash demand during Ramadan and Idul Fitri, we plan to supply cash of Rp 37.63 trillion [$4.2 billion] to Bank Indonesia branches.”
