World Business: The recession started by irresponsible banking practises in the West has taken its toll on the Islamic World, just like everywhere else. As home to some of the worlds poorest people a swift recovery is crucial. But the Islamic world has some key strengths that may help it on the road to recovery, not least a particular bright spot in the form of Islamic Finance, which has fared much better than its western counterpart.

World Business: This week leaders from across the Islamic World met in Jakarta for the 5th World Islamic Economic Forum. The top topics under discussion were the global recession and food security; both increasingly important issues for The Organisation of the Islamic Conference. With some of the worlds richest countries as members but more than half from the least developed, how can such a disparate group work together?
