BRUNEI - BANKING - 'Commercial banks have edge over Islamic counterparts on returns'

www.bt.com.bn - ISLAMIC banks or financial institutions may not be able to compete with their conventional counterparts with respect to investment accounts since the returns cannot be guaranteed under Syariah or Islamic rules, a Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) academic said.

"One of the normal criteria which the investors always look (for in) investment products is whether their capital will be intact, protected or whether there will be side effect or risk on their capital," said Hairul Azrin Hj Besar (pic), a senior lecturer of the national varsity's Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies (FBEPS). INDONESIA - BANKING - BNI Syariah Financing Shutter Consumptive 1000 UI Lecturers and Employees

Jakarta, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) Syariah interlace cooperation with the University of Indonesia (UI) in developing the supporting facilities for the academic society UI to perform Umrah and Haj worship using consumer financing facility from BNI Syariah.

JAKARTA: PT Bank BNI Syariah and the University of Indonesia (UI) to conduct the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Cooperation Agreement on Implementation Support of Education and Utilization of Products and Services Banking today in Depok.

INDONESIA - BANKING - UB Agrees to Cooperate with BTN Syariah

On that occasion, the signing was done by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yogi Sugito and Gamaria, S.E M.M., the Branch Manager of  BTN Syariah of Malang. Present at the meeting, the Vice Rector II, the Director of BAK, the Director of BAU, and the Director of Finance and Cooperation of Main Office.

Gamaria said, the signing of this agreement opens opportunities for cooperation in education with BTN Syariah. Such as creating a learning laboratory for Islamic banking. "For learning, we can establish cooperation with FEB (Faculty of Economics and Business) and FH (Faculty of Law)," she said. This was greeted positively by the Vice Rector II, Warkum Sumitro, S.H M.H., who also attended the meeting. Warkum is also a lecturer of Islamic banking law in FH UB.  (source)
