INDONESIA - CAPITAL MARKETS - Indonesia eyes the role as Asian sukuk hub

WWW.REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government is expected to develop Indonesian sukuk market and boost Indonesian role as a hub for Asian sukuk. The project sukuk for infrastructure financing is planned to be issued on the second semester.
The Director General of Debts Management in the Ministry of Finance, Rahmat Waluyanto, mentioned that issuing local currency sukuk is among government’s measures to improve Indonesian sukuk market.
"Besides that, we can use state sukuk as monetary instrument and source of IDR," Waluyanto said on Monday.  (source)

BRUNEI - CAPITAL MARKETS - Sukuk can help fund Sultanate's infrastructure projects scholar

www.bt.com.bn - BRUNEI is on the right track with its recent take in sukuk structuring and issuance over the recent years to aid the Sultanate's infrastructural development, said an Islamic Finance scholar.

"Though the market is relatively small in Brunei for now, I believe there's a lot that sukuk can contribute in terms of infrastructure project financing for Brunei's megaprojects," said Sheikh Faizal Manjoo. (source)

INDONESIA - FINANCE - Indonesia Nets ADB Loan for Roads In Kalimantan and Southern Java - IDB co-financier

The Asian Development Bank approved on Friday a 25-year, $180 million loan for Indonesia to help it improve a 470-kilometer-long road in northern Kalimantan and parts of the busy road network in southern Java.

ADB said the Islamic Development Bank would provide the equivalent of $65 million in co-financing for the project, and the Indonesian government would contribute $135.5 million. Work is expected to be completed by February 2016.  (source)

Jakarta (13/10) Head of the Fiscal Policy Office (BKF) Ministry of Finance Bambang Brojonegoro, say, that the chances of Islamic finance in Indonesia is large enough let alone seen the condition of the economy as a macro and micro levels of its development is phenomenal. Therefore, he hoped that Islamic finance can work on the agricultural sector and infrastructure, as the sector which has been financed by Islamic banking minimal. (source)

CAPITAL MARKETS - Indonesia May Sell First Sukuk Backed by Road, Rail This Month


May 5 (Bloomberg) -- Indonesia may hold its first sale of sukuk backed by road and rail projects on May 31, said Dahlan Siamat, director of Islamic finance at the finance ministry.

The ministry is waiting for parliament to approve 30 trillion rupiah ($3.5 billion) of state-owned land and office buildings to be used to back sukuk offerings, Siamat said in an interview in Jakarta on May 4. Shariah-compliant bonds pay return on assets to comply with Islam’s ban on interest. (full story)

CAPITAL MARKETS - Indonesia to issue first infrastructure-based sukuk

JAKARTA, May 5 (Reuters) - Indonesia's government plans to sell its first project-based sukuk this month to continue providing sharia instruments, as it runs out of assets to guarantee regular sukuk issues and seeks to fund infrastructure. 

The government aims to sell 1 trillion rupiah ($117 million) of sukuk on May 31 backed by 1,066 infrastructure projects such as roads worth 20.9 trillion rupiah, said Dahlan Siamat, sharia director at the finance ministry. (full story)

FINANCE - Islamic finance should play a bigger role in infrastructure financing (PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk)

KUALA LUMPUR: Islamic finance should play a bigger role in infrastructure financing so that it contributes to the real sector of the economy, instead of focusing mainly on property financing, market players said.

YTL Corporation Bhd group managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said the sukuk market tends to be “property-centric” currently, but it is high time that Islamic finance move towards infrastructure financing to boost liquidity in the sukuk market.
