INDONESIA - BANKING - Credit BTN up with 21.46 % - opening new Shariah branch offices

JAKARTA - PT Bank State Savings Limited (BTN) to record credit growth of 21.46 percent, from Rp 46.51 trillion in June 2010 to Rp 56.49 trillion in June 2011.

BTN president director Iqbal Latanro here on Wednesday said credit growth in the first half of 2011 affected the growth of non-housing loans so that the composition of mortgage and non mortgage to 10.5 percent and 89.5 percent. (source)

INDONESIA - BANKING - BTN Syariah Business Reaches Rp 4.461 trillion

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Islamic Business Savings Bank Negara (BTN) through sharia business unit (UUS) continues to show performance improvement. In the first half of 2011, the bank's State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) noted an increase in assets to 56 percent from year to year.

According to Director of BTN, Iqbal Latanro, sharia recorded assets of Rp 4.461 trillion from Rp 2.9 trillion previously. "Business is growing like a conventional," he said. (source)

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Sharia Economy Society (MES) has intensified Islamic Banking held a Research Forum (FRPS). Once in Palembang and Yogyakarta 2010, the MES in cooperation with Bank Indonesia (BI), the Association of Islamic Economics (IAEI) and Forum Gathering and Islamic Economic Studies (FOSSEI), will be held FRPS IAIN 2011 in North Sumatra and Padjadjaran University. INDONESIA - EVENTS - Forum Riset Perbankan Syariah

Jakarta - Following the successful implementation of the Research Forum of Islamic Banking in Palembang and Yogyakarta in 2010, MES, BI, IAEI and FoSSEI will hold Islamic Banking Research Forum (FRPS) in 2011 twice , with the theme "Enhancing Quality and Competitiveness of the Banking Industry Welcoming the National Sharia Era ASEAN Economic Community (MEA). 

This year the host campus is IAIN Sumatera Utara on September 29 to 30 and the Padjadjaran University in December 2011. 

Executive Director of the Society for Islamic Ekonomy (MES) Achmad Ikbal stated, "This forum is part of an effort to overcome the problems in the development of sharia banking in Indonesia ".

EDUCATION - CAPITAL MARKETS - 100 Participants Were Attending the Shariah Capital Market

Jakarta (20/12) to encourage public awareness for capital market transactions as one of investment instruments. The  Masyarakat Ekonomi Syariah (MES) has conducted such training for the beginners which participated by 100 individuals.

Capital market is well known as the game for the investors only although not all capital market players is investors. This wrong image is to be changed as explained by Ahmad Iqbal from MES, furthermore Iqbal said that the capital market is belong to all layers in society and it could be beneficial for public at large for business purposes.
